Nations Can Also Demonstrate Hypocrisy!
Hypocrisy: a feigning to be what one is not; the acting of a false part; a deception as to real character and feeling, especially in regard to morals and religion

Don't tell me, because I already know -- the very idea of suggesting that at this time in its history the United States is playing the role of hypocrite to the hilt will intensely anger a large number of persons who somehow have been misled into believing that the "land of the free and the home of the brave" is the most noble of champions of justice, liberty, and morality in the international arena!

It is true at the very beginning that there was a shared sense, as this nation gained its independence, that all persons should be free from tyranny and all persons should possess certain basic freedoms. A kind of "cornerstone" in this is seen in significant statements from the Declaration of Independence dated July 4, 1776:

"……We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness…."

And so it has been down through the decades of history that the United States has engaged in a number of conflicts in which its reputation was one of being a nation of freedom for all persons -- a nation which possessed a judicial system that attempted to insure that justice would be assured on behalf of all persons -- and a nation possessing certain privileges and rights which would make it the envy of many other peoples of other nations.

For a long time the United States has been making a kind of profession unlike other nations in the following manner.

First, in the familiar Pledge of Allegiance statements are made as to those privileges enjoyed by the citizens (and by implication, those who will become citizens of the U.S.). There is an acknowledgment and recognition of the importance of the nation being "under God" -- this suggesting in no uncertain terms that to be "under" God is to be in submission to the will and holy purposes of this God -- that citizens are to make it a priority to be obedient to this God and His revealed moral, ethical, and spiritual standards of conduct both at the individual level and also at the collective level. Just in case you haven't recited it for a while, here is how that pledge goes:

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands; one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all."

Second, unlike other nations, we have a special inscription on coins and currency that is a witness as to where our confidence as a nation is to be centered -- "In God We Trust" is quite legible on each coin and each piece of paper money we handle in our transactions! Strange, is it not, that even professing atheists don't seem to hesitate much when it comes to using United States money to buy and sell in their daily experiences!

But due to certain drastic changes in our culture during recent decades, the "In God We Trust" statement is proving to be more and more a claim that shouts from the highest mountain tops that we are hypocrites of the first magnitude!

For years in the political realm as well as in the church realm we have attempted to stress the need to be a just society -- justice is to be administered fairly on behalf of all persons.

But for millions of persons "liberty and justice for all" never applied and they were the victims of the most depraved form of criminal acts with not a hint of the slightest effort put forth to see justice done on their behalf. The toll of victims continues to increase by thousands every week and by an approximate number of 100,000 or more on a monthly basis!

Yes, I am referring to millions of children who have been brutally assaulted, mutilated, and murdered in recent decades in this nation which professes to trust in God! They are the unborn victims and no murder charges have been filed against those persons (at least one doctor and one female who was carrying the child in her womb) who conspired to violently murder them.

And no, I won't be drawn into the stupid argument by those who claim these are but "fetuses" and not persons -- that issue has already been settled by the God Whom we claim to be "under" in His special revelation whereby He shows clearly that He knows and identifies us humans before we are even conceived in our mother's wombs. It is senseless to try to discuss this with those who in an unregenerate state of mind refuse to accept what God has made plain, and who feel no remorse at the ongoing slaughter of those for whom the Creator has a grand and glorious purpose!

We are still in a waiting period -- waiting for that moment when God makes His response to a nation which on one hand continues to massively destroy well over a million of its unborn on a yearly basis, but on the other hand makes the hypocritical claim of being a nation where justice is done for all! Can you face the reality of what happens daily in this nation -- and have you pondered what it means to be deprived of the contributions that tens of millions could have made to the well being of this nation, if they had been permitted to live and be born?

But our hypocrisy perhaps reached its highest expression during the outbreak of hostilities with the country of Iraq and its leader, Saddam Hussein. For months we had been informed of the need to "liberate" Iraq's citizens from the tyranny of Hussein if he refused to disarm. We were told that he had "weapons of mass destruction" and this situation was intolerable. The mass media was very helpful in getting the message to us from our president and other leaders within our government. We reached a point where it was rare for anyone in this nation not to be convinced that Saddam Hussein was the most evil person living on the face of the earth.

As you know, Saddam did not surrender and reveal his cache of "weapons of mass destruction." Military action taken mainly by the United States with help from Great Britain toppled the regime of Hussein and his cohorts in a rather short period of time. Information obtained revealed in graphic detail just how brutal Saddam Hussein was in the treatment of Iraqi citizens. One of the most infamous practices of his government was detailed by eye witness accounts of the "people shredder" -- those considered to be political enemies of the Hussein regime were fed into an industrial shredder originally designed to shred plastic! But there were torture chambers and other stuff by which anyone considered to be an enemy of the government was efficiently dispatched into the world beyond!

Our responses were sort of like an "Amen!" -- finally the Iraqi people will experience freedom and justice -- we have gotten rid of that person who treated them in such indescribable brutal fashion!

But hold it just a second -- in our massive hypocrisy, we intentionally overlook our own brutal practices which make Saddam's seem like child's play by comparison -- for a couple of reasons -- first, the sheer numbers involved -- compare the fact of our destruction of over 42 1/2 million unborn children (as of end of May 2003) while the total population of Iraq is only a little over 24 million people. Second, Saddam and the people of Iraq never pledged allegiance to their flag claiming to be "one nation under God" and publicly declaring words such as "…with liberty and justice for all!"

Take a look at what our record of brutality has been from the date our troops aggressively set about to "liberate" the citizens of Iraq from the highly publicized brutality of Saddam Hussein!

and see what happens!

For a morally and spiritually sensitive person, the claim of being "one nation under God" is brazenly inconsistent with the official sanctioned practice of destroying hundreds of our future citizens in the womb on a daily basis. But even worse, the few who are familiar with God's past dealings with cultures which took a very low view regarding the value of human life are painfully aware that failure to halt those practices which result in the willful destruction of human life can only lead to one outcome -- the wrath and judgment of a holy God!

Guess what? The below pictured individual was not a victim of Saddam's brutal regime. This one was brutally assaulted, mutilated, and murdered within the boundaries of a nation whose citizens and leaders proudly proclaim the nation to be one which is "under God" and that it is a nation "with liberty and justice for all." Is it really? And is it legitimate to raise the issue of hypocrisy concerning the nation's moral claims?

No charges were filed --
no trial was held --
and no verdict handed down
regarding the above murder victim in the
"land of the free and the home of the brave!"
