"Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free." -- John 8:32
"They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who brought them - bringing destruction on themselves." -- II Peter 2:1b
One of the greatest tragedies to hit the United States was the 911 attack on New York City. However, even greater and more destructive has been the moral decline in this country and the disintegration of the family as we have known it since the beginning of civilization.
The slide down the slope towards moral self-destruction started in the 1960's, picked up speed during the following decades and has continued to accelerate as we moved into the 2000's. While many pray and speak out for a change in the morality of our nation, it seems that things are only getting worse.
As we look back we can see that when the Government legalized the killing of innocent babies the unthinkable started. Difficult as it is to believe, since Roe Vs Wade gave the greenlight to abortions, over 40 million babies have been killed. There are those who now advocate that a mother should have seven days after a baby is born to decide whether she wants to keep it or dispose of it. Such disregard of human life is now reaching the point that some say that the quality of life should be the depending factor in whether or not a person's life continues - young or old.
Each day television, movies and magazines unashamedly flaunt the adultery and sexual perversion that is so rampant today. Tragically our courts seem to believe that it is a Constitutional right for people to engage in conduct that has been considered wrong by practically every civilized group since time began. With that approval those groups who engage in such conduct march in parades in our cities proudly proclaiming their deviant behavior.
Another element in our moral decline has been the increase in other religions; those who follow Gods other than the God of the Bible. The past few years have seen a rapid growth in cults such as Islam, the Mormons, Scientology, Unity and the New Age Movement . Eastern religions such as Hinduism, Bahai and Yoga are finding followers among many young people who are desperately seeking answers to their problems but have no association with a Christian church or the teachings of Jesus Christ.
While the Christian church puts great emphasis on the home, family and marriage, forces are at work against such concepts. The lack of commitment has led to an unbelievable number of divorces. Satan keeps telling people that they have a right to be happy and anytime they are unhappy in their marriage, walk out. It seems that this has almost become the norm rather than the exception with little or no regard given as to the effect such actions have on the children. Many of the so called "beautiful people" in the entertainment industry are married so often it seems to be nothing more than serialized polygamy. And so many children grow up with no stability of home and family and find their pleasures in liquor, drugs and sexual promiscuity.
When one speaks out, cries of protest are heard saying religion is okay - if you keep it private and personal but it has no business in the public arena. Anti-Christian advocates deny that Christianity had anything to do with the founding of this nation or that the writers of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were God fearing people. What those same persons don't seem to understand is that if their ancestors had believed as they do they would not have the freedoms and privileges they enjoy today.
Although they occasionally give a slight nod of approval to religion, they fail to realize that it was not religion that made this nation great, it was a specific religion. It was Christianity. While it is not politically correct to say this, it was Judeo-Christinan beliefs that created a legal system unlike any other in the world, brought forth great music and literature. When that is denied, all hope for a great nation and a life of freedom is doomed.
