Yes, even the title of this one borders on the ridiculous if not a leap into hopeless insanity – but wait a minute -- what would really happen if the following suggestions were actually put into serious practice in Washington DC?
ONE Seek the will of God each day in personal and corporate experiences as well for our entire beloved republic. When God’s will is not sought and accomplished, disaster is always the result without exception. Jesus’ teaching on coming to Him, listening to Him and then doing precisely what He says is dramatically illustrated in Luke 6:46-49 which is quoted above! On another occasion Jesus had something extremely important to say about the will of God:
"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'” --- Matthew 7:21-23But then, even in church circles these days, the will of God being accomplished doesn’t seem to be much of a priority issue, so why should it be so when it comes to the function and responsibility of elected officials in a place known as Washington DC – and we wonder (and they too) why things are so screwed up and the country is in such chaos?TWO Give a generous amount of time each day to personal discipline of Scriptue reading and prayer. Spiritual growth can only take place in this manner – there are no short cuts. The attitude must be this – God has given us a revelation about a lot of things that are absolutely essential to know, but He will never force them on us – the choice to learn and make the changes He requires are ours!
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust." Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your habitation, No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. They shall bear you up in their hands, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample under foot. Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation. --- Psalm 91THREE Attend public worship faithfully as a witness and because Scripture teaches such involvement. One day in the week has been set aside for worshipping and hornoring God – leaders at the highest levels can make a positive contribution by example at a time when the day of worship has been thoroughly profaned by large numbers of persons in our nation. Less than half are in a place of worship on any given Sunday. Remember, it is not a day to conduct government business!
Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. --- Hebrews 10:19-27FOUR Begin all cabinet level meetings with prayer and intentionally seeking God’s direction in all decisions which will impact our nation and our relationship with other nations around the world – seek that we will demonstrate in the most practical ways that we are indeed a nation under God, and not against Him!
And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished building the house of the LORD and the king's house, and all Solomon's desire which he wanted to do, that the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as He had appeared to him at Gibeon. And the LORD said to him: "I have heard your prayer and your supplication that you have made before Me; I have sanctified this house which you have built to put My name there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually. Now if you walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and My judgments, then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised David your father, saying, 'You shall not fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.' But if you or your sons at all turn from following Me, and do not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them, then I will cut off Israel from the land which I have given them; and this house which I have sanctified for My name I will cast out of My sight. Israel will be a proverb and a byword among all peoples. And this house will be exalted; yet everyone who passes by it will be astonished and will hiss, and say, 'Why has the LORD done thus to this land and to this house?' Then they will answer, 'Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, and worshiped them and served them; therefore the LORD has brought all this calamity on them.'" --- 1 Kings 9:1-9FIVE Intentionally seek the will of God in implementing national policies in order that our nation may be healed and function under the blessing and favor of God. Most drastic will be the need of a 180 degree turn around in our policy regarding deliberate destruction (read execution) of thousands of unborn future U. S. citizens each week of the year. Bu no stretch of the human imagination can it be said that our present version of “Holocaust” is within the acceptable will of Almighty God Who has a purpose for every conceived human life!
"For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbor, if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, or walk after other gods to your hurt, then I will cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever. Behold, you trust in lying words that cannot profit. --- Jeremiah 7:5-8Will the above suggestions be heeded? Show me where a snowball can survive intact in a place that is a million times hotter than the surface of the sun and I will enthusiastically answer, “Yes!” The answer, of course, has already been given in the title above. But I can dream can’t I? While I do not foresee the day when the above suggestions will be even remotely considered and practiced, I do look forward to a time when all nations will be at peace – war and conflict will exist no more – economies will be full and overflowing with prosperity and there will be no indebtedness whatsoever!
But before that glorious time of worldwide peace takes place it is very possible that we may witness something very similar to what the prophet Jeremiah witnessed in his day. For years he sounded the warning (the need to repent of personal and national sin and turn back to God) which went unheeded. He was still living when he saw the collapse and the destruction of the nation in which he had lived for quite a number of years – he had seen the progressive deterioration and corruption of his nation religiously and politically – he warned what would happen if drastic changes did not take place and his warnings were totally ignored! His words of sorrow as he viewed the ruins of the magnificent temple and the city of Jerusalem are recorded in the book of Lamentations.
But this one thing I know beyond all doubt – the day will come when the Lord Jesus Christ will return to this world, take complete control of it and rule with true justice! Of course, a significant part of this good news is the fact that all world leaders of all the nations will be removed from their positions – just one of many wonderful things on the exciting list of future expectations!
Many are the predictions and wondrous descriptions of how it will be at that time. We do a grave disservice if we do not bear witness to that glorious hope for the future at a time when elected government leaders are deceiving the citizens of this republic into believing we can take a catastrophic plunge deeper into debt and somehow spend our way into a time of prosperity and bounty everywhere you look!

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you. |
