CDH is getting quite a list of unpublished letters at the Tribune-Democrat, but fortunately other newspapers in the area will still print letters sent to the editor. Sometime back, however, I was asked to be "Guest Editor" at the Tribune-Democrat in Johnstown PA. This was an enjoyable experience and will be detailed a bit on the page where all the unpublished letters reside -- the link above titled, "Letters to Editor...."

As you know, we entered the NEW MILLENIUM as of January 1, 2001 and now find ourselves in the third decade of the 21st Century! The nails continue to be driven at a furious pace -- Will 2023 be the year the final nail is driven for the United States? That's not a hammer in your hand is it, or are you following the example of many politicians at the state and federal levels as well as a very, very large number of United States citizens? May 31, 1889 -- the South Fork Dam above Johnstown PA failed after very heavy rains hit the area -- the resulting flood caused the loss of over 2,200 lives. It needs to be said that there are a FEW members of the U.S. Congress that are trying to do what is right, but they are a very small minority group and often labeled to be the bad guys! However, there is great news regarding the ugly and corrupt worlds of media communications and politics -- God has something wonderful planned for the future -- hang on for a while because something beyond our wildest dreams will happen! The obscene gesture is something exhibited quite frequently in our culture in a number of ways! It is displayed in public at times by persons of all ages, and this includes females and children! In the mid 14th Century Bubonic Plague spread through Europe killing a large number of the population. It became known as the Black Death! We have a plague that has been spreading throughout the world for decades. References to God's dealing with nations by means of devastating judgment are extremely rare in many churches these days! In fact the denial of God bringing judgment and total destruction upon a nation of people is intentionally avoided by too many pastors and bishops! We are living in a time of excessive violence, ranging from one person expressing rage and committing an act of violence against another person to acts of violence involving mass shootings resulting in many lives lost! For decades there has been conflicts in many church denominations over the issue of homosexuality and lesbianism as to whether these lifestyles should be accepted or not. The United Methodist Church where I am an ordained elder is now in the process of splitting with the formation of what is known as the Global Methodist Church. There is a word that used to be used a lot in churches of long ago and people knew the meaning of that word when they heard it! But now it is very rarely, if ever mentioned. Lots of talk about an "amicable" separation involving the United Methodist Church! The separation, in a sense, became official with the formation of the Global Methodist Church on May 1, 2022. No middle ground has been reached between those who accept same-sex intimacy and marriage and those who reject it on Biblical grounds choosing to be in agreement with God's view! Church leaders are expected at times to address critical ethical, moral, and spiritual issues -- they are to be the "shepherds" who challenge and guide the flock over which they have been given authority! The United Methodist Church has a sizable group of leaders identified as bishops -- sometimes they speak out loud and clear on issues and other times seem to be tongue tied! It started in 2005, then repeated in 2006 and again in 2008 -- all W. PA Annual Conference pastors of the United Methodist Church were required to be at the ordination service which was held on Father's Day each of those years -- the preachers got to spend Father's Day with their congregations and their families in 2007, but alas! Back to the same old fiasco in 2008! Two letters were sent to the bishop during the first two years -- none sent during 2008, but comments were made at my blog under the title, Father's Day 2008 Among W. We continue to be bogged down just a tad in plces here and there, and a lot of killing continues to take place -- seems like this suicide bomber thing is popular and will always be as long as Islamic clerics do their "teaching" and exert great influence on the young in certain Islamic cultures -- but there are also Islamic terrorists in many different places, Iran going nuclear, North Korea, the Middle East "road map to peace," and some "bogged down" places in the world such as Afghanistan & Bosnia which are a few of the "thorns" in the sides of the U.S. and its leadership at the present time -- are we really prepared to do battle over the long haul? Some United Methodist Church Related Stuff!

D A T E: April 23 - May 3, 2024 > Note: session was delayed due to covid and inability of foreign delegates to travel.

Things did not go well at the special session held in St. Louis in February of 2019. The alleged One Church Plan was being highly promoted, with expectation that it would pass. Lo and behold the Traditional Plan was the one that won in delegation voting, thanks mainly to delegates from countries outside t the U.S.A! And so the fall-out began immediately. Soon reports began to surface about rebellion - pastors would not adhere to the standards of the present Book of Disicpline - churches would be used in which same-sex marriages would be performed and UM pastors would conduct the same, etc! All this mess did not happen in a short period of time -- it is the harvest result of seed being sown over a number of decades of time! The plan for separation is called Protocol of Reconciliation & Grace Through Separation - you can wade through this debacle at The Protocol to be offered at May 2020 General Conference.
